Kristin
In your book SUPERWOMAN you refer to the 3 Cs and
how they took you from where you were to where you wanted to be. Can you
explain?
Mona
Absolutely! When I first became a single mom, I felt scared, doubtful, and dissatisfied. I wanted more. I soon realized that if I was going to accomplish anything I’d have to do it on my own. The 3 Cs, which I call Courage, Confidence, and Commitment, became my tools for staying on track and turning my dream of becoming a writer a reality.
Kristin
What made you write a book for single moms?
Mona
When I was a young, single mother I felt very alone. I wanted to share my experiences as a reminder to other single moms that they are not alone. Sometimes just knowing that there are others out there going through the challenges you’re experiencing can be very helpful.
Kristin
What advice would you give budding writers?
Mona
Write a lot. Read a lot. And never give up on yourself. Also, don’t quit your day job. Having dreams is one thing. But you have to also be able to pay your bills along the journey.
Kristin
On top of writing books, you have a humor blog and a regular column that you write. What do you do when you’re not writing?
Mona
I love to dance. In fact, I’m part of a competitive hip hop team and this season we came in first in our category in all three competitions that we participated in.
Kristin
Do you ever get writer’s block? If so, how do you overcome it?
Mona
I think all writers get writers block and it usually stems from not having a clear vision of what we want to write about. Also, reading serves as great inspiration when we’re blocked.
how fun that the author does hip hop dancing in addition to EVERYTHING else -- that's a full & fulfilling life.
