Sociology professor Felix Thayer is brilliant but hateful. A near genius in his field, but impossible to get along with. When his colleague Michael Hartness is found murdered in his office, it doesn't surprise anyone that Thayer is arrested for the crime. Everyone who knew the two men pretty much saw that coming. But why would Thayer have committed the murder in a manner so careless as to almost ensure his being fingered as the culprit? It's almost as if the guy wanted to be caught.

That's what Thayer's wife needs to know. She doesn't really care whether her husband's guilty. She just has to know why he'd be so careless and hires Sam Quinton, full-time gym owner, part-time private eye, and former professional wrestler, to find out. But as Quinton investigates the crime, he finds there may be more to the affair than the animosity of two men. And when the local Mafia begins dogging his steps, he figures he's on the trail of something that someone wants kept under wraps.

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you Kevin R. Doyle and RABT Books Tours and PR. I'm excited to be a part of this tour.

Having spent my career working in higher education, I know this professor type and they are horrible to work around. While I’ve never worked for a professor, I have certainly worked on a lot of projects with faculty over the years thus being exposed to this personality type. Having said that, I know far more professors who are caring, humble, and student centered in their approach to the work we do to retain students. BUT I’ve digressed.

Double Frame is the third book in this series and the first one I’ve read. The book is well written with an eclectic cast of characters that really make this book. This book worked well as a standalone. I didn’t feel like I missed anything by not having read the first two books.

The setting is described so well, I felt like I was a part of the story as I read along. The writing style is easy to follow, and the pacing is spot on. Full of plot twists and turns you won’t see coming, this book is hard to put down. When I was done, I didn’t want it to end.

Overall, I recommend this book and I will be circling back to books 1 and 2 while awaiting the next installment in this series. I look forward to seeing how our main character grows and develops.

Overall Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

  1. Good morning. I appreciate the nice words about Double Frame. A friend of mine works in higher ed, and let's just say she did not appreciate some of the characterizations. But after over thirty-five years of being in some way associated with the field, when I worked out basic plot I decided to have a little fun with it. Also, #4 in the series, Clean Win, is due out in March. Thanks again.
