Gobbledy is a
captivating novel for middle graders. This book is full of adventure while also
dealing with loss. While the holidays are happy for most of us, they can also
be very difficult for some, especially if they have experienced a significant
loss and are celebrating with one less family member this year.
This will be my first
Christmas without my paternal grandmother. She loved Christmas! My fondest
childhood memories are all the Christmas Eve’s we spent having large family
dinners filled with joy and laughter. And dishes, there were a lot of dishes to
wash post dinner. She also made the BEST sugar cookies, which we affectionately
nicknamed as “Grandma cookies.”
This book follows three
friends as they find a golden rock that turns into an alien. Filled with the
magic of the holidays and one adventure after another, this book will keep your
reader engaged from start to finish. The message of grief is well written and presented
in a way that is easy for children to connect with.
The descriptions are rich
in detail and will certainly have children’s imaginations in high gear as they
visualize what the characters are experiencing. I highly recommend this spirited
holiday themed book, it’s perfect for this time of year!

About the Author
Lis Anna-Langston was raised along the winding current of the Mississippi River on a steady diet of dog-eared books. She attended a Creative and Performing Arts School from middle school until graduation and went on to study Literature at Webster University. Her two novels, Gobbledy and Tupelo Honey have won the Parents’ Choice Gold, Moonbeam Book Award, Independent Press Award, Benjamin Franklin Book Award and NYC Big Book Awards. Twice nominated for the Pushcart award and Finalist in the Brighthorse Book Prize, William Faulkner Fiction Contest and Thomas Wolfe Fiction Award, her work has been published in The Literary Review, Emerson Review, The Merrimack Review, Emrys Journal, The MacGuffin, Sand Hill Review and dozens of other literary journals.
