When I saw this
tour, I jumped at the chance to read and review this book. I live in an urban area
with a lot of loud noises. As a result, my nearly two-year-old, Jack
Russell/Chihuahua mix is often fearful of the noises. She literally jumps at
everything – dogs barking, loud noises, holiday decorations, sirens, the wind –
to name a few. Despite taking her to puppy school and walking her often to expose
and normalize our daily walks, nothing seemed to be working.
I enjoyed this book;
it is well written and full of helpful hints that have helped my dog become
less fearful. The author nicely lays out the methods and steps to take when
training a fearful dog. Despite having taken Mabel to puppy school, I learned
several new tips and tricks from this book.
The author is knowledgeable,
and the short chapters make this a quick read. The book is also broken into
sections which can be used a reference moving forward. I recommend this book to
anyone who is considering adoption or has just adopted, it is full of information
designed to help your new family member adjust.
