Cheryl DaVeiga is one of my favorite children’s authors. I’ve
been privileged to have read several of her books by being a reviewer for
iReads. I found The Dolphin Dentist to be an absolute delight! This book deals
with the fear of going to the dentist in a fun and entertaining way.
I 100% identified with Flossy Fin. As a child I was a speed
skater and was rushed to the dentist when a skating trick went awry, and I
broke my front teeth. As a result, I developed a healthy anxiety toward the
dentist that exists to this day despite my having very gentle dentists.
In this story we meet Flossy, who is in desperate need of a
dentist with horrible breath to boot. Eventually, Flossy’s mom makes her go.
However, when she gets there the appointment does not go as planned. It turns
out the dentist is deathly afraid of sharks.
I enjoyed this book’s message. It’s written in a way to get
kids excited about going to the dentist and why it’s important to go. The illustrations
are gorgeous and bring the story to life. I look forward to reading more from
Cheryl!
