How to Make a Sandwich by Lorena M. Proia is an imaginative children’s book that turns an everyday task – making a sandwich – into a creative and funny adventure sure to engage your little reader. This story follows Rae who is an artist with a wild imagination full of curiosity and ideas. As she tries to make a sandwich only to find that it’s harder than she expected. Instead of preparing a typical sandwich, Rae finds as soon as she adds an ingredient it disappears. She quickly realizes there is a thief in the midst and engages with her family to try to figure out where they are going. I loved this playful approach because it encourages young readers to think creatively while embracing beauty in ordinary moments.

The vibe of this book is lighthearted and engaging, perfectly suited to capture the attention of your little one.  Her use of exaggerated ideas, family banter, and silly sandwich fillings make this book perfect for family reading time. The humor is complemented by the vibrant illustrations, which are both colorful and expressive, enhancing the overall reading experience. Each page is packed with visual details that invite children to explore and imagine alongside the Rae. I truly enjoyed this debut book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Overall, this book is a delightful read that will capture children’s imaginations and encourage them to see the potential for fun in everyday tasks. It’s a wonderful addition to any young reader’s library.

Meet the Author:

When Lorena graduated years ago with a BFA in Graphic Design and Painting, she never imagined she’d become an Information Architect in high-tech. She thought her creativity was lost until she was rescued by an Australian Shepherd named Phebe. Inspired by Phebe’s antics, Lorena started drawing again, leading to the creation of Phebe-n-Me, a t-shirt company that eventually blossomed into a children’s book!
